Australia and New Zealand host the 2023 Women's World Cup

FIFA has announced that the 2023 Women's World Cup will be held in Australia and New Zealand.

The joint bid of the two countries against Colombia was accepted. Brazil and Japan had already announced their withdrawal from the hosting race earlier this month.

For the first time, 32 women's teams will take part in the 2023 Cup. Currently 24 teams participate.

These competitions will be held from July to August 2023.

Australia and New Zealand received 22 votes out of 35 members of the FIFA Council, while Colombia received 13 votes. Greg Clarke, chairman of the Football Association, and eight UEFA members voted for Colombia.
Nefentino expressed surprise that Colombia was voted in by UEFA members because of its low score according to FIFA's assessment. Colombia scored 2.8 points out of 5, while Australia and New Zealand scored 4.1 points.

"These technical reports have a purpose," Infantino said.

The UEFA justified its move, saying that hosting Colombia would "create opportunities for the promotion of women's football in South America."

Infantino also proposed holding women's competitions every two years, saying he wanted to hold them in South America and Africa.
